How a TierPing pricing check works

Every check follows the same five steps, in the same order, for every page. Nothing is fetched until the URL passes the safety checks.

1. Validate the URL

Only public http(s) URLs are accepted. Credentials in URLs, private and internal network addresses, and unusual ports are rejected, and the domain's DNS must resolve to public addresses only.

2. Respect robots.txt

Before fetching, TierPing reads the site's robots.txt. If automated access to the path is disallowed, the check is skipped and the skip is shown to you rather than hidden.

3. Fetch one page

The page is fetched with a plain HTTP request (no headless browser, no logins, no CAPTCHA solving, no stealth techniques). Redirects are followed only within the same site, up to three hops, and re-validated at each hop.

4. Extract plans and prices

Readable text is normalised and scanned for plan names, prices, currencies, intervals and limits. Each detected plan gets a confidence score.

5. Compare and record

The new snapshot is compared with the previous one. Differences become dated change records you can review in your history. Email alerts are live. When a check detects a change type you have opted into, Tier Ping emails your confirmed account address from alerts@tierping.com, at most 20 alerts a day. Every change is also kept in your dashboard history.

Known limitations

Pages that render prices only with JavaScript may return little or no text.
Pages behind logins or bot protection are not checked.
Custom or 'contact sales' pricing is recorded as such, without a number.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if a site's robots.txt disallows the page?: The check is skipped and the skip is shown to you in the dashboard rather than hidden.
Can Tier Ping read pages behind a login?: No. It only fetches public pages with a plain HTTP request — no logins, CAPTCHA solving or stealth techniques.
Why might a check find no prices?: Pages that render prices only with JavaScript, or that use bot protection, can return little or no readable text. Custom or 'contact sales' pricing is recorded without a number.
